After 60+ years the CCKW/Chevrolet 4X4 Hood Support may not be as safe KW sheetmetal and trinkets and it's all gone now)
It would not hurt to remove your Hood Support and rinse it in solvent and give the mechanism a squirt of OE-10 or 10W-30 Oil. Do not will evaporate.
It kind of looks real nice when the original style 1/4"-20 Phillips head
