THINGS I USED TO DO

Post by RANGER »

Back in 1971 we had 3 new Crated GI Cable Trenchers that were post war and early 1950s surplus. I needed NOS wheels for my MB that I have had since then, and opened the crates, removed the Jeep Combat Wheels and cut the trenchers up. I now wish I did not. The Wheels had Civilian light yellow paint with a green pin stripe under the OD which leads me to believe thet the manufacturer of the Trencher used WWII wheels obtained from Willys that were left over from very early Civilian CJ-2A Jeeps.
We had one of the first Civilian Jeeps in New England after the War, it was Pasture Green with Yellow wheels of the same shade beneath the OD on the Cable Trencher wheels.
I wouldn't be surprised at the existance of a crated Cable Trencher at some obscure surplus yard. They were next to worthless.
