Gas gage sending Unit

Post by Jim M »

Another question for the assembled masses: am getting ready to install my new (used) gas tank and will install new sending unit. The question is regarding the type of screws used to retain the unit.
According to the TM, it uses "rd-hd, S, cd pltd No. 8032NC-2x3/8". Does this mean 2 inch by 3/8 inch crome plated round headed screws?
What suggestions might you have for use in the stallation of the sending unit gage?
Thanks!!

G,day Jim. Round headed slotted cadmeum plated, National coarse ,2x3/8 inches long ,Is what you are after .My drill / papping guage Chart only goes down to 3 [.099]48 tpi ,Tapping drill size 2mm . I would suspect that 2 size does not exist any more ,if it did it would be approxamatly !/16 [.0625 inch ] of an inch Dia . You should be able to pick up a chart [Tapping drill sizes] from your local tool store that sell drills ,if not write to a drill manufacturer .Im sure they will send you one if you ask . Another alternative that you have is to retap the existing holes to a standard thread that is readily available .Hope this helps.regards Ray

WC gas gage question

Post by Jim M »

Thank you for the words of advice on this item! Had been hunting for a gas tank for my WC 51 for a long time and found one from another WC driver 8)
Just need now ro get the wood bed ready and then move on to the gas tank project.
So times it is always better to be careful of what you ask for. Seems one project leads to another and another......
The joys of having a WW II Military vehilce!

Jim you might check McMaster Carr. You can order almost anything right off the web and they do have some pretty off the wall hardware.
