Hood numbers question

Post by Jim M »

Being new at this adventure I can ask these silly questions.
What is the connection between the hood numbers and the build record? Or is there a connection.
Is the hood number related to the information on the build record or are the hood numbers assigned at the Host unit from their record books.
I am getting ready to start working on the hood, to include numbers and would like to have the correct numbers (or close) on it.
Thank you all in advance.

The numbers on the build record corespond to the frame number not the hood number. I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that the hood number was the acceptance number assigned to the vehicle by the accepting government official. He was given a list of USA numbers he could use and assigned them as each vehicle passed his inspection and was officially accepted by Uncle Sam. Because some were accepted as presented and some were rejected and sent back inside the plant for repair/replacement there seems to be no coorelation between the frame number and the USA number. I have seen pictures of vehicles setting in storage yards at the factory some had USA numbers on them and some didn't. Anyone know for sure that is correct????

What the Build Card will get you...

You need the frame serial number to get the build card, so you'll have that already, but it does give you the original motor number, body number, and build date.

Based on the build date you can take a swag at the Gov. Registration number...

That chart is from Rob's WWII Dodge Motor Pool site:
http://users.beagle.com.au/mtrpool/

He also has a list of known serial numbers/gov. reg. numbers:
http://users.beagle.com.au/mtrpool/data2.html

Bert has started a list too on his Wiki site:
http://www.ww2dodge.com/wiki/Category:Serial_Numbers

These referances can help put you in the ball park for picking a Gov. registration number to paint on the hood if you couldn't find one by sanding.

Good luck,

Hood numbers

Thanks for the information on the numbering of the WC. Had visited most of the site listed and "worked" out hood number using the information given.
Thought that the number was for the most part the responsiblity of the recieving unit, and not related to the build number.
So my thinking was confirmed on the hood numbers. But found out it never hurts to ask
Again, Thanks for all the help!

Hood numbers

NO
Went to the Doctors office last week and got clean bill of health and told to take it easy. Friday night while lying in bed, went to put my hand behind my head and twisted something the wrong way.
Arm now hurts like h-ll and have large wine colored "bruse" the upper half of the arm--from elbow to shoulder.
Was told to take it easy and if not better by Monday to come in on Tuesday.

Want to work on the WC soooo bad!

Jim:

Ya know my thoughts about doctors. That's why they call it "Practicing Medicine". Just found out last night that a friends boy friend died. He was 47, and had gotten a clean bill of health from the doc's 3 weeks earlier. He died in his sleep. Our friend said she had woken him a few hours earlier and they had gotten into a minor argument because she didn't wake him when she went to the car wash, and he seemed fine then.

Can't blame anyone other than myself on this one  Twisted the arm when I should have known better.
But this too shall pass and I will over come this minor hurdle that prevents me from the WC!

Thanks to all who have asked. Now I just need to listen to the Doctor better and heed his advice

Yep in the Netherlands way say "Ik ga naar de wc." meaning I'm going to the Loo/toilet.
So a wc 51 sounds like a numbered toilet. :(

Not only in the Netherlands...
In Germany it is common to say and wrote (for example in restaurants) WC for toilet.

My licence number is MS WC 54 H.
MS is for my hometown Münster (can't be choosen by the driver it's allways for the town were the vehicle is registered)
WC 54 - YOU all know what it is for
H is for every historic vehicle which is more than 30 years old (in fine condition and registered as historic).

WC 54 .............. thats quite funny for some people on the road

Before I choosed the number I was already prepared of the "WC" meaning and was thinking of taking US 43 for the year of my Ambu. However I like it to have the kind of vehicle on the licence plate of historic trucks.

Sylvia:

You could have also chose CAR 54. That was an old TV series about 2 inept New York City cops and CAR 54 was their call sign. One of the cops went on to become Herman Munster (Fred Gwynne) http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/guide/artic ... 1225.shtml .
