What was the original manufacturer and model of the heater installed in the WWII Ambulance?

The heater that was in my WC-54 manufacturer was Tropic-Aire, Inc. The model number was stamped very lightly on a painted-over plate - it may have the numbers 162 in it, but that is not definite. If pictures of the heater would help, email me at jim088@hotmail.com and I can get some.

Is this the one (under door)?

It's installed in the back of my WC64 but I found the original Tropic Air.
This one is now for sale

That small rectangular one is different than the one I have, Guido. Mine appears to be a Norwegian replacement and is different than the Tropic Aire that Jim sent pictures of.

The heater in my WC53 is a Janitrol - appears to be an original fitment.

Is the Janitrol a hot water type heater or a fuel burning type?

The Janitrol is a fuel burning type with a pretty complicated heat regulation device, inbuilt electric fan etc.

I flew old Beech Queenairs with a very similar Janitrol heater in the nose - always waiting for some huge explosion from this flaming furnace in the nose locker!

Ken

The original heater is a Tropicaire. I just purchased one from John Bizal. He has a few more in stock.

Need help with defroster

Post by Greg Alexander »

I just installed my TropicAire heater in my WC-54 and it appears that there was a seperate blower for the defroster (which I do not have) Does anyone have an illustration that shows where and how the defroster blower is mounted?

Better yet, does anyone have a defroster blower and Y tube for sale?
