Lenght of wooden parts WC51

Post by sirtom1 »

Hi

Does anyone know the "exact" length of the different wooden parts of a WC51?

Thanks!

For a "one stop shopping" spot with lots of bed wood detail, it's hard to beat Al's site at:

http://www.wc-52.com/cargo_box.html

As for under cab and under running board blocks... I'm not sure. If you can't find something with the search feature here, you might try searching the the Powerwagon forum archives at:

Good luck,

What type of bed do you have? Steel or wood composite? Do you need top bow information? I can provide a limited amount of information for the wood that is comman between the 3/4-ton and 1-1/2 ton.

WC Cab Mounting Blocks

The blocks are not rectangular but have one end at a slant while the other is perpendicular to the sides. The measurements are:

1-7/16" thick, 4-1/16" wide, 3-9/16" in length on the short side, 4-3/8" in length on the long side.

Each block has a piece of webbing on the bottom. The webbing is 2" wide and cut 3" in length. The webbing is about 1/16" thick. The webbing is mounted centered on the block beginning on the perpendicular end with the long dimension parallel to the long side. The webbing is mounted on the bottom of the block and is held on the block by two carpet tacks.

The cab slants in at the place where these blocks are mounted which is the reason for the slanted side.

Two blocks are needed and are identical except they are mirror images to match the right and left-hand mounting.

There are no wood blocks at the rear of the cab. There is a long bolt with a spring on each side. The bolt is drilled for a cotter pin and uses a castellated nut.

Running Board Blocks

The dimensions are:

Front:

11-7/16" long; 1-15/16" high; 1-5/16" wide with two 3/8" holes in the 1-5/16" side centered 7/8" and 7-5/8" from one end.

Rear:

10-1/8" long; 13/16" high; 1-3/8" wide with two 3/8" holes in the 1-3/8" side centered 7/8" and 7-5/8" from one end.

All of this information is based on our WC63 (DOD 28 July 45) and may not apply to all the WC vehicles.

Dodge Top Bows

WC51, 52, 62, 63

The wood is a hardwood, possibly ash, and is 1-5/8 inches wide by 1-1/8 inches thick.

Side pieces (vertical uprights) are 32-1/4 inches long. There is one hole (1/4- inch in diameter) drilled through the piece parallel with the side of the truck located 3-3/16 inches up from the bottom. This is for the toggle locking mechanisms on late model trucks. There are two 3/8-inch holes drilled perpendicular to the side of the truck on the upper end of the piece for the top bow attachment. It would be best to use your bow corners to mark these locations. The rear side piece on each side has a 7/16-inch hole drilled perpendicular to the side of the truck and 13-1/8 inches down from the top end where the eye bolts for the attachment of the safety strap are installed. The eyebolts use a 3/8-inch weld-on type of tee nut, as the pronged type would probably split the wood.

Top pieces (horizontal cross members) are 70-13/16 inches long. There is one hole (5/16-inch in diameter) drilled vertically through the center of the piece (35-13/32 inches from the ends if you can measure that close). This hole is flanked on each side with a 7/32-inch hole 33-13/16 inches from each end of the piece. These three holes are counter-bored on the upper side with a 9/16-inch hole about ¼-inch deep (keeps the bolt head from contacting the canvas). The center hole is for the bolt with wing nut and the two flanking holes are for the bracket for the center pole that is run from front to back and stabilizes the assembly.

Center piece The centerpiece is the same size as the rest of the wood and its length depends on the model of the truck. Best to measure length after you put on your top bows. There will be 5/16-inch holes drilled for the bolt and wing nut where the top pieces intersect the centerpiece.

These measurements were taken from an original set of WC62/63 top bows.
