Oil Question

Post by G. Miskovsky »

All,

I have been running Non-Detergent oil in my WC51 since I got it. Looking for opinions on an oil upgrade to a more "modern" lubricant.

Do know that it's a bad Idea to switch to oil with detergents without a complete cleaning of the system as it breaks off build up creates a new problem.

looking for your thoughts

G,Day Gus . If it ain,t broken ,don,t fix it . Yes you are probably right . A new engine it would probably be OK . But an old engine ,keep the non detergent oil going . Detergent oils on old engines loosen up all the muck inside the engine and this can cause trouble . Like i sad . If it ain,t broken . Ray

Detergent oil ONLY into a newly reworked engine, with all surfaces and oil passageways completely cleaned beforehand.

if the oil doesn't have zinc it needs to be added. In the US most zinc is gone from most oils. there are some race brands and diesel engine varieties that have enough or throw in some STP or other zinc additive
