Vehicle has several field mods. Notice the wire cutter.
Also has a 50 cal mounted.
I would say it could be almost any unit type. There are spent commo reels on the bumper. So could have been artillery, signal corps, service, even infantry.
The front pintel would help move almost any trailer - water, 1/4 ton, Ben Hur, or artillery pieces. I would conjecture it was a good idea to have a pintel on the front

I haven't seen any period photos of this type of mounting, but it seems like it would make sense. Maybe the reenactors in this photo saw one like this and copied it.
