Water pump lubrication
Hello everyone, new guy here from KY. I have been creeping here for awhile and finial got registered. My 1st offical question would be on the water pump. I have a 1941 dodge wc 9. The tm calls for water pump lub. What type of grease do i use? Will any type do the job? Thank you for any help.

Re: Water pump lubrication
Hi Wardog,
the grease is isolated from the coolant by the water pump seal so pretty much any good quality grease will be fine. I does rather depend on your pump type though. The "early" pumps had bronze bushing type bearings so a good lithium based grease would be best, the later pumps have ball bearings and they "usually" don't have grease zerks. If yours is ball bearing type and does have a zerk then any good wheel bearing type grease will be good.
Dont over grease though.
Cheers

Hi Wardog,
I'm sorry for your loss, but pleased that you have decided to go ahead and "fit it up". You may not have your father but you will have a wonderful monument to him.
Cheers

Re: Water pump lubrication
Don't let that bother you, the fundamentals have not changed that much between the early '40's and the late "50's. With the info thats available from other Dodge owners via this site anything is possible.
The 1st thing to acquire is a workshop manual and a lube chart, these are all available in reprint form from the likes of Midwest Military in Minnesota, and Vintage Powerwagons in Iowa.
Cheers
