Hood and contract number early WC 56

Post by ziro »

Hi Guys,
I have a question about a WC56.
Build card says: 815 47336, 29.July 1942, Body number 4243. The question is now the hood number and the contract number.

When I take my other WC 56 with 81576174 is it build inside the contract 20167957-20182608. That contract says that 14651 WC 56 are build between the numbers.

So when I take my 815 76174 it has a hood number around 20176686.

But what is with 815 47336. It is far away from that contract numbers. ???

Help please. :-)

G,Day Ziro . For a start 4243 is not the boy number . It is the type of body . All wc 3/4 ton vehicles had a body number starting wit 42 As for the chassie number and hood number lining up ,forget about it . On the contract it included all wc models ,so there might have been 20 wc 51 ,then 4 wc 52,s then 5 wc 56,s then 5 wc 54,s ambos , all on the same production line at the same time .So that it is almost impossible to know the hood number ,unless it is under many layers of paint ,and you are lucky enough to find it . Take a look at known numbers of trucks . You might be luck enough to find a wc 56 with a hood number near your wc56 chassie number . Good luck Ray

Hola,

The body number that comes in your B.C. 81 547336 is the body number of your WC-56 (4243).

The body number that comes in your B.C. 81 576174 is the body number of your WC-56 (8712).

The body model is another thing and for these two WC-56 is 4219.

The 4219 was used by two models, WC-56 and WC-57.

Now let's enter your question. What is the hood number of my Dodge?.

Is it possible to know it?. Is it in B.C.?.

The answer is: not exactly.

I have made a study, I intend to relate the B.C. with the government contract and military registration.

As of today, I have 196 B.C. (WC-51 to WC-64KD) and it is a very small amount, only 0.065%, to draw exact conclusions.

However I can tell you the following:

The first 14,652 WC-56 Dodge, which were manufactured, were under the contract Quartermaster C., W-398-QM-11422, contract Ordnance Dept, W-374-ORD-2741, with 14,652 units, with military registration W-20167957 to W-20182608.

Of those 14,652 units of the WC-56 model, I have 31 B.C., 0.21%, which is a small amount.

However, carefully examining that small amount of B.C. from the model WC-56, I can reach a conclusion:

WC-56, 81 547336, hood number is W-20172060.
WC-56, 81 576174, hood number is U.S.A-20176238

Why?...

Then the explanation will come, soon

Juan.

Ray, I do not want you to get mad at me, but the 4243 body model does not exist.

Hello Juan,
these are the answers which I need!

Thank you for that.

Please I'm very exited to read from you how my WC-56, 815 76174 has the hood number U.S.A-2017 6238.

Because I thought it would be around the 2017 6686. Your number is 448 vehicles lower. ???

I have looked in the list. WC56 815 75284 has the hood number 2017 5796

From 815 75284 to my 815 76174 we have the distance from 890 vehicles. I calculated on the hood number 2017 5796 from the 815 75284 the 890. And then I got 2017 6686.

Best, ziro

And here for Ray my other buildcard with the body number 4243. ;-)

Why why why?...

These 14652 units are manufactured under the same Spec.O.Nº .: 41818

In the upper left part of the B.C., comes a box that says Sched.Nº.

At 31 B.C. that we have of the body model 19 = 56 (WC-56), there is a number, which goes from 1047 to 15528 ( 81 538697...81 633423).

For me, I repeat for me, the Sched Nº. It is the manufacturing or manufacturing order form for each vehicle. The production department of Dodge received this order of production, to manufacture, produce or assemble a specific vehicle with its specific characteristics.

In the specific case of these 14652 units of model WC-56, Dodge took 14652 orders of production, from 1001 to 15652, under the technical specifications 41818.

If you look at the two B.C. from Ziro, we have:

81 547336...Sched. Nº 5103.
81 576174...Sched. Nº 9281.

Therefore, for me, it is the vehicle manufacturing order 4103 and the 8281 (WC-56).

The first vehicle of this first order of the Government, of the Army, had the military registration: 20167957.

Therefore with a simple sum, we get to know the military registration.

There is an important tolerance, between 1 to 1000 units.

If any of you, are interested in knowing my study about B.C., I will send it with pleasure, it will be a pleasure.

My e-mail: jpelaez15@yahoo.es

I have it in Microsoft Excel and I have to send it by e-mail.

B.R.,

Juan.

I am new to this and have much to learn, but I have looked at hundreds of build cards on command-car.com and other sites trying to determine some relationship. Even cars built a day apart can have vastly different serial numbers. It seems the serial numbers were shared across all WC production models, even at different plants. Which would make sense because otherwise there could be two different vehicles with the same vin/serial number.

I would love to find a post or link to decode the vin. Usually on a modern production car the first digit of a vin is country of origin, the second is model, etc. Does the 8,1,5 or 6, mean anything, or is it just all military contract serial number?

The body numbers also do not seem to directly correspond to serial numbers, and how could they if the above is true; e.g. two vehicles with serial numbers 100 apart will NOT have body numbers 100 apart..

Registration numbers are obviously determined by voodoo or witchcraft; so my hat is off to Juan and his practice of the dark arts....j/k

Hola Adam,

I am an aspiring sorcerer, nothing more ... ha ha ha¡¡¡ ...

Everything has an answer, well ... almost everything.

As we do not have known answers, we have to study, investigate, work
and in any case risk ourselves to always be able to move forward ... Although witchcraft, from time to time, comes well ...

Adam,

if you want I send you my study. I need your e-mail.

My email is:

jpelaez15@yahoo.es

In my studio you will, probably, find things that you already know, but you will spend an entertaining time.

In addition, you will find a magic formula ...ja, ja, ja¡¡¡...

Why do not I post it in this forum? Well, I do not know how to do it.

I have it in microsoft excel and I pass it to jpeg images, but this forum has no direct possibility of uploading images.

That is the reason.

If I found a way, I would upload it with pleasure.

Juan,
when you have jpeg images from that study, you can send them to me. I can put it here inside. Same way if I have shown my buildcards.
