Hi guys,
this might seem a silly question!!
The gaskets for the carb to intake manifold are multi-layer held together with a metal staple. Does one remove the staple before installing the gasket?
I ask this because I have had carb base vacuum leaks before with these gaskets. The thin single thickness gaskets tend to cause fuel percolation and flooding through heat transfer from the manifold to the carb, so in my view the multi-layer gasket is preferable.
Cheers
Ian

- My garage: Restored Old Henry, and have had this WC51 on the road around 3 years now... Currently finishing a brace of Ben Hur trailers, and starting a 67 Galaxie fastback. Concurrent with the WC I restored a 74 TR6... Oh the joys.

Nope. The stack IS the gasket... If you have very slight leaks there, I'd suggest Form-a-Gasket 1, applied and wiped mostly off, just to create a good seal. Let it dry for a day or so. (I believe #1 is the proper one for fuel uses) If there are bits of gasket missing, use the same process, but leave a little more.

Re: Carburetor Base Gasket
My Dodge WC-26 does not have that large gasket and when I drove it during the Vets Day Parade in Panama City I had issues with too much air. I had to choke the engine. You may be on to something that may fix mine. Vintage has them and My WC-12 has the thick gasket on it. Have not had this issue. Good luck we all need suggestion along the way.
