Again referring to the wen site

"Millboard is a thick, square piece of asbestos based insulation that was used in walls, furnaces, fire screens and in other areas where large amounts of heat were produced. When it is in good condition, a piece of millboard is not hazardous in any way, but if it is cut, sanded or ripped, then tiny amounts of the internal materials are usually released. After this occurs, the danger mounts. Workers installing the insulation, or people who are in areas where damaged boards are present become likely to ingest the potentially lethal particles as they float in the air.

Sorry for multiple posts...but technology issues....

Anyway the description provided above could be mistaken for cardboard. Back in the 40s asbestos was used in lots of stuff and it wasnt until I believe the late 60s early 70s when the dangers wete commonly understood.

I dont lnow the UK, but is it possible, that the material eas substituted in the UK, but they kept using the original name?

GDay all . The mill board that suposadly had asbestos in it { 40-50 years ago}
is nothing like the modern equivalent . The Authorities in most western world countries would not allow it to be made with asbestose in it . So go forth and use modern mill board with safety . Ray
