Starter question

Quick question for the group: is it easier to try and fix the starter assembly--the part that holds the foot pedal that pushes to the actual starter or just buy a new one? The one that I have in my WC is really sloppy and makes starting a real bear!
I think that what it needs is to tighten the play between the foot pedal and retainer on the starter.

See below in the forum re reproduction stuff. Apparently the starter pedal fitting is on the repro list - nearly everyone has this problem!
