I don't think that's a CCKW. I think you are looking at a pre-war ACKW. Look at the 8 hand-holes on the rim.
As for the modification, I think you are looking at something done for a crash truck on an airfield. I've seen that done to a Chevrolet Class 325 in a photo some years back.

I didn't think it was a CCKW, just wondered about the cab mods. Thought it might have been for some sort of firefighting purpose. What year would the GMC be?

looks like someone mixed a bus body with a truck cab.

It is a 1941 Civilian model GMC 4X2
I have seen these type of mods before on crash fire trucks. Had a quick look but could not find it in my files. Will look again later.

Note the roof line, it is a crude fix, doubtful that it has anything to do with the Military.
