WTB Ben Hur Parts
I am gathering parts to restore my metal body Ben Hur. Anyone know where I can get Data Plates? Need tail light brackets as well. Let me know what you have to sell or trade. The trailer is really complete so I'm in good shape. Someone cut all of the oblong tie downs and made hooks. Not a big problem to solve. Thanks .Paul

Watch E-Bay, there is one vendor currently offering a good assortment of parts. Punch in Ben Hur and see what lights up. Kevin Kronlund mentioned the had NOS volute axle bumpers stored away somewhere. I have NOS axles from drum to drum.
P.S. I like your line of WWII paint, it is the best being offered. Too bad my fleet is all painted and perfect condition.

He was going to dig some out to sell, asked him for a pair a couple of weeks ago. The volute springs are good engineering, but I would hate to think of how rough one would have to drive in order for those springs to do thear job. It takes considerable weight and motion to bottom out a Ben Hur.

Like two tons and air dropped, is my estimate.
I saw some M-38A1s that suffered hard landings from being air dropped, the tires pushed the front fenders and rear wheel housings up a bit.

Air dropped
Air dropping it will do it! When I was a Company commander in the 82nd my 3 digit serial number command HMMWV rode like crap and looked like it was driving sideways down the road. When I asked the motor sergeant why, he said due to the many heavy drops it had been used in. That was normal, but HQ6 was getting worse every time I got in it, after pressing him for more information he finally relented and told me that every time a vehicle was needed for a heavy drop in the Battalion (out side company operations) HQ6 was offered up, my vehicle! Due to it's age, the motorpool NCO's had made the decision to save wear and tear on the newer ones, so HQ6 had become "the heavy drop queen". Be careful out there if you ever see any 82nd bumper numbers for HMMWV some are really beat up, walking off a drop zone one moonlight night I saw chemlights in a tree (red ones, they denote a vehicle) and lodged about 50 ft up was one of our HMMWV's!
Ok, enough war stories! How much did you pay for the volute springs?

Kevin will be fair, but one has to realize that these are not all that common and one should be rewarded for their investment to keep this nice hobby alive. I sold a pair of NOS CCKW Fenders 21 years ago to a customer for $200.00 each and am buying them back at nearly twice that amount.

Talked to Kevin last PM and he has to do some digging to find them. He mentioned that he would be going to Holland soon and will look on the shelves of Army Cars for some.
Kevin is a gentleman, and keeps his word.
