here is a scan of the page out of TM 9-224 & change showing the correct MG mount and ring.



While I have never seen any photos of Le Roy compressor trucks fitted with the mount it does not mean it wasn't done.

but like most this is/was a universal open cab, cab. I'd love to mount one on it..

I have seen WWII Pics of an open cab LeRoi with the gun mount,I'll see if I can find it.

As you pictures show I believe it was the M36 for the CCKW open cabs and the M-49 for the Dodges. The M36 legs come up every once in a while, the M49 rings are around although it is really hard to still locate a WW2 one. I suspect you can go shopping in Dayton next year and get everything you will need.

Nice restored examples but what of WW2 photos showing the gun mount? I'd be real interested in seeing some of these. None of the photos I have show the compressor truck with the mount but that does not mean it was not done. Good luck with your parts finding.

i would think there should be some photos,, as these trucks were used for building everything not just bridges, etc,, And i'm pretty sure the Germans were trying to stop the advance of the allies from the west, at river crossings, especially at the RHINE.. so i can for see them having a gun ring.. along with a Quad .50 Halftrack M16 near by. If you do searches for combat engineers,SIGNAL CORPS , Red ball, maintaince groups, motor pool etc, you can find odd photos of engineers building bridges, stations, airfields, etc.. there are websited decated to these groups, with members sharing photos on the sites, of their WWII experiences. Its really facinating, knowing that , there were more than just the front line G.I. and that's waht has me buing these odd, bigger truck,, i want the museum, to display, all veterans, in ALL aspects of war time, home front, etc

I could put that closed cab, with ring on it,, but the leg braces would be tough to make fit to the rear bed, i'll keep it original. jc
