My Beep

Post by beep »

Hi all, here it is my one. Have a look, comments wellcome.

Image

Here there is the first question: I do not know whether of not this coul be original, I have only seen one old pic with similar bows.
Image

this is the pic
Image

The top bows corner are not oginal, and one piece of wood is broken. Where and how much would cost the six original corners? And what about the kind of wood for the top?
Image

Here, a look of the full rear floor. Another problem, the fuel gauge does not work well, and i think that the problem is in the mechanism to measure the amout of fuel inside the tank. To ways: a hole on the wood jus in the exact place, or dissamble the tank from the rear. What do you recomend? It is extrange because when tunr the truck on, the needle moves a little but not enough, so electricity is arriving at the gauge.
Image

This one just to show the rear seats. the rear seats are not confortable when the top bows are remove aren´t they ?
Image

and what about this tag?
Image

And what about the gauges? which ones are originals and which not? and about the handles?
Image

and tha´s all. now getting documents to can drive street legally. I want to buy the full canvas with doors, but a lot of money...

Bow corners are available probably about $20.00 each. The floor is not original and looks like a sheet of plywood so you will need new wood and a set of skid strips. The troop seats are not original so some works wil be needed there. When a vehicle gets to be 65+ years old many modifications have been made. In the original bed floor there woild have been a round steel inspection plate over the fuel tank sending unit which would have made it easy to check the grounds and replace the unit if necessary. If you restore the bed floor you can do the sending unit at the same time

I like your vehicle because it looks like a "driver" and not a "trailer queen". GIs have always made modifications at the motor pool level...and that won't change. Your vehicle shows the history of the guys who actually used it for its intended purpose. Make changes to suit your taste, and pocket book. Enjoy it, and drive on.

I have to agree with Uglyranger, I like the look of a "driver". Your truck looks great....

I would call John Bizel the owner of Midwest Military. I suspect he can hook you up with all you need. If not Vintage Power Wagons can but they are usually quite a bit more expensive. Both have very good websights.

REALLY NICE! Glad you drive it.

Where were the pictures taken? Looks like a church to the front right, but bunkers for explosives behind the truck to its right????

Rgus,

john seems to not have the corner bows, so I´ll try in power wagons. Thanks for your help.

Uglyranger, thanks for posting the addresses. Ken J, This is a coloured WWII picture, Isn´t it?

Nooooo this is the village where I have the truck. This village has more that 500 years old. You are right with the church, but wrong with the bunkers: they are "bodegas" the place where the wine is done.

Great Truck in a beautifull landscape/village!

Like the top bows and the wood, together with that vintage photo it shows a useful GI modification - and a special Truck today next to some trailer queens which someimes all look the same.

Cheers

Vintage Power Wagon had NOS BOW corners a year or so ago. They had surface rust but a trip through the blast cabinet and they look brand new. They were $20.00 each at that time.

Hola Beep, como estas?.
Yo gusto sus Beep, yo tengo una Command Car.

I believe you will find the problem with the fuel gauge will be in the sender unit inside the tank. It is likely this will not have a good earth (ground) You can prove this by using a jumper wire with alligator clips between the tank and the chassis.
I found this worked on my Command Car.

I them removed the fuel tank (not a difficult task) and then removed the sender unit from the tank. I dismantled the sender to find there was a small srpring missing from the float arm mechanism. The spring ensures there is contact betewwn the arm and the body of the sender. A new spring (taken from a tyre valve) fixed the problem.

What region in Spain are you in?
