German Half Tracks are steered by the combined action of turning the front wheels and braking the rear track on the inside of the turn, the steering brake drums are activated at 18 degrees turn or approximately at two thirds of the turning range of the front wheels.

U.S. Halftracks are steered by the front wheels only.

Betcha you did not realize this. I didn't either. I learned it from reading some information from the Office of Chief, Technical Division, Ordnance Dept, U.S. Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground (my old Alma Mater) on testing captured enemy vehicles.

Some of the WWII 6X4 German Staff Cars had 2 speeds in reverse. They must have known that it was possible to lose the war.
