interesting. never seen a stamping like that. could you sand it down a bit and see if there is more before what the pic shows? and maybe pic of the block casting number?

From Eric Bannerman

I'd need to see the lower casting numbers to identify it for sure, but I think that's a 1951 replacement engine based on the M37. The stamp is U.S-6-11671

That frame number is definitely one that was added later. Sometimes that's the original number just stamped a second time, but often it is just a random number added to a frame. I've even seen T110 D60 serial numbers on WC-52s in Europe. They just added whatever random military serial numbers they had to a frame.

The body tag is from February 1945.

The frame number is May 1945 which makes it unlikely that the body and frame numbers started life together.

He's asking for this
Ask for the lower casting numbers below the distributor and below the starter and tell them just in case to clean the frame to bare metal above and around that stamped number. Maybe there is something of the original number left?

Hi Eric I’ve asked James the new owner to get me all pics of casting numbers etc and chassis numbers when he picks up the new 52 to him on Saturday

Ah ! Sorry sir I do apologise, I have now reread your post thoroughly! And see where the confusion occurred!
I am wondering now how my friend James WC52 that late a production ended up in the ETO after wars end and now looking at the pictures I think this may originally have been a 51 with added winch … hence the stamped chassis number different font .
