Crank rear oil seals

Another question re my ever bigger to do list, there's two types of crank rear oil seal listed. One is the bolt on plates which is what I have and there's some neoprene ones listed also. Do these fit the original plates or are they a modification as I can't see where they would fit on my engine.....thanks in advance

Chris

Hi Chris,
the neoprene seals fit into the main bearing cavities/main bearing caps. I believe that not all engines are machined to accept these seals. Check by seeing if the neoprene seal can be fitted into the bearing cap before going any further.

Cheers

Ian

Chris,
I believe Ian is correct. When I opened my overhaul gasket set while working on my 218 cubic inch engine for my WC-3 the only rear crankshaft seal was the neoprene seal. My engine didn't have the groove machined for that seal, mine had the bolt on type.
Best regards,
Steve

Thanks Ian, thanks Steve. My rear cap has no machining for a seal only for what I would call the crank thrust flange (if that's a term  ) looks like it's bolt on! Thanks again
