USMVC e.V. tour "Operation Silent Crossing 2016", starting at D-55411 Bingen (G)
MV tour on the traces of the river Rhine Crossing of General Patton in March 1945. The tour is organized by the USMVC e.V., one of the oldest MV collectors Club's in Germany and starting at the former Hindenburg Bridge at Bingen (sister to the Bridge at Remagen), then going thru the vine area around Mainz, passing Dexheim and it's former Anderson Barrack's of "the mighty 1st" (Old Ironsides) and ending at Nierstein, south of Mainz. Here on the 22.03.1945 the "Operation Silent Crossing" took place and Patton pissed into the Rhine from the Ponton Bridge after having been the first over the Rhine and "slapping Montgomery in the face" that way. From Nierstein the Convoy will proceed to the Village of Bogel (close to St. Goar) and it's site for the overnight Camp.

We take over the entire Stockton Delta KOA which is six miles west of I-5 at 14900 S.R. 12, Lodi, CA 95242. Casual vehicle show and swap meet. No admission, parking, vendor, or vehicle registration fees! Vendors must rent campsites. All former military vehicles are welcome in any condition and we have free, high profile display space for non-campers. Hotels are six miles away. Liberation Festival Pilsen, CZ-301 00 Pilsen (CZ).
Forgotten by many in Western Europe is the fact, that the Allied Forces liberated in the end of WW2 wide areas in the east that then later on became "satellite States" of the Sowjet Union. Back in 1945 the City of Pilsen was liberated by the troops of General Patton and the 17th Belgium Battalion - today to be remembered with the Patton Memorial at Pilsen and a friendship between Pilsen and the City of Mons (Belgium).
71 years after the End of WW2 and the end of the Sowjet Empire the City of Pilsen is today part of the European Community - and is remembering V-Day with an own Liberation Festival in large scale with full support of the Major of the City and local authorities. So there will be Concerts, Commemorations at the Patton Memorial with Veterans in Place, Convoy driving with MV as well as a MV collectors Camp and much more. "72nd anniversary of D-Day", Normandy, (F)
Just as a "reminder" for all of you: D-Day 2016 is the 72nd anniversary of the landings in Normandy and will be not such a "big thing" as in 2014. But as usual there will be a lot of events and commemorations in the week before and after the 6th. I will add lateron more specific infos in an own thread, as soon as I get them.
Generally speaking: you should plan your trip in time and make reservations as soon as possible - esp. if you are planning to stay at the "hot spots" as Sainte-Mère-Eglise or Omaha Beach with limited amount of Hotels and B&B places.

The largest MV collectors Club in France - UNIVEM, from Paris - is organizing it's Dog Green Camp as well again and entry for the Camp at Omaha Beach is open now. Some details in brief: The 2016 DOG GREEN CAMP at Vierville-sur-Mer – Omaha beach will open this year from June 2nd to 7th.
This year, the activities for the participants of the camp will be :
- Saturday 4th : Military Vehicle promenade in the “bocage normand” and picnic with the habitants on the beach
- Sunday 5th : Military Vehicle Parade along Omaha Beach
- Monday 6th : Commemoration on Omaha Beach

Very cool MV event (mostly static display) located at the two runways of the Ursel Airfield with Air-Show and one of the largest militaria fairs in Belgium. Worth to visit because it's one of the nicest combinations of MV Event & militaria fair in central Europe.

33rd Int. Oldtimer Fly And Drive In, Schaffen-Diest Airfield, B-3290 Diest (B)
Originally an international Classic Aircraft enthusiasts Event with a very long tradition (33rd annual issue!) at one of the oldest activ airfields in Belgium, that is still today the home of the Belgium Forces Paratroopers. Since years the Fly In offers a steady growing vintage car meeting with a very relaxed XXL picknick charactre, incl. classic WW2 MV camp and C-47 parachute jump.

15th European Elvis Festival at Bad Nauheim and 9th Elvis Weekend at Friedberg (G)
Largest Event in Europe of this kind at the former "European home of the King", incl. Exhibitions, Cadillac Parade, Cinema- and life music Events, collectibles market and much more - celebrating this year the 81st B-Day of the King! The background of this Festival: When the “King of Rock ´n´ Roll” started his military service on the 1st of October 1958, the city of Bad Nauheim (about 20 km north of Frankfurt) soon became his “European home”: He rented a house at the Goethestrasse in Bad Nauheim and lived there with his his parents for 18 months and met his later wife during that time there. So Bad Nauheim is the home of the "European Graceland". The German Elvis Presley Association (EPG) is celebrating this fact at Bad Nauheim with it's "European Elvis Festival".
His US Army unit was located at the Ray Barracks at the nearby town of Friedberg and the City of Friedberg is celebrating this period with "the King" with an own Event, the "Elvis Weekend" in cooperation with the Elvis Presley Verein (EPV) on the same weekend. Both festival attract each year 6,000-8,000 visitors. Highlights: collectibles market, lot's of cover Bands and a Cadillac & vintage car exhibition as well as a Cadillac parade from Bad Nauheim to Friedberg and a unique guided tour with MV at the former US Army Ray Barracks area that normally is strictly closed to the public.

Schmidtenhoehe Koblenz Event org. by the MVD-Koblenz, D-56075 Koblenz (G).
Largest annual MV event in Germany organised by the Military Vehicle Drivers - Koblenz.
Usually more than 400 MV in place. Focus is clearly on post WW2 MV (= 98 % of all in place).
The Event is open to all types of vehicles - tracked as well (Tanks, Halftracks, Military Caterpillars etc.) - even those with steel tracks! The MVD offers the unique opportunity for free (!) driving on the German Forces Tank training grounds close to the River Rhine and the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.
XXL Tank Car Wash (for a small fee) avaiable to bring your vehicles clean back.

As in the last years the organization is splitted up among the City of Bastogne and several Re-Enactment groups. Valid informations for 2016 are actually not at hand. Based on the schedule of the last years is the Historic Walk on Sat. the 10th, starting at the Bastogne Barracks.
At the Bastogne Barracks (Nuts City) will be the Tank Museum of the Belgian Army and the US HQ Museum open all weekend long. The Tank restauration centre of the Belgian Army at the Bastogne Barracks is worth a visit too. Address: Bastogne Barracks,Route de La Roche, 40, Bastogne.

The Re-Enactment at Recogne and the MV parade at Bastogne will take place on Sunday the 11th.
There is an entrance fee for the Re-Enactment and parking only at the roadside (about 2-3 km walk).
Notice: Organization of the Re-Enactment is not by the City of Bastogne
The traditional MV Parade is starting at the Bastogne Barracks and proceeding then downtown.
Organizator is the City of Bastogne. You have to apply for joining the Parade in advance.
