Hi Brian

I know quite a bit about Liberty trucks, what is it you need to know?

The Liberty A was a 1.5 tonner compared to the B being a 3 tonner. Not many A's were made and i am not aware of there being any survivors.

All the b's were initially provided with electric lights but these were unpopular as the light could not be easily dimmed (it was either on or off) and then they went back to kerosene or paraffin lamps (being Dietz or Adlakes). The large spotlamp on the front was aceytelene and were made by CM Hall or Solar.

Hope this helps.

Oh yes, i saw that one had been sold. So i guess it will be off to Cantigny. Excellent museum that, bit lacking in WW1 vehicles (although they did have an FT17) they dont seem to have a shortage of money so i supsect that they will give it a thorough rebuild.

I think it has had a hard life as it has a rad off a Pierce Arrow and a great deal of metal welded into the chassis. Looks very restorable though.

I have seen two other Liberty B's sold in the last 12months or so. They dont seem to go for very much money.

I will look out your other posts.

All the best

Yes, thats the one. Nice museum. Very well laid and organised. I enjoyed my visit and should go again. A bit sad to see all the MV's sitting outside in the harsh Illinois weather though. I guess they keep all their working ones somewhere else and bring them out for special occasions. I suspect that the Liberty has been purchased to be restored by their volunteers (that should keep them busy for a while).

How did you hear that it was off to Cantigny? Do you know people there?

no, I know the seller, it sat at russ morgans tank barn, and weasel emporeum, for years.
he just said it went to the 1stID in chicago, and didnt know that much about it either.
couse john ferrie made the deal, then dissaperd back to south america,
like he always does.
I was hoping the lafyett foundation would pick it up, so it would stay here.
but evedently all the money is back east.

Well that's a shame, but at least if it is in Chicago i will be able to go and see it, as i usually drop through Chi twice a year.

Do get them to drop me a line if they need any help or technical info on it.

All the best
