I'm fond of the dark beers myself. Have regular case orders of Kostrizer at the local liquor store here.

That's a good one too (speaking of the dark ones).billpoe wrote:I'm fond of the dark beers myself. Have regular case orders of Kostrizer at the local liquor store here.
- It's very popular over here and intiated a sort of "dark beer revival" via a huge marketing campaign .
Cheers, Joakim

Re: Old WC's never die - they just move on! :-)
Thank's a lot to you all for the Flowers!
I would say "it's not perfect" - but a good basis to start with... So I will keep you updated on the progress of this project (rolling rebuilt).
The latest news: I got today the confirmation of the production date from Chrysler Heritage!
And - big surprise - it left the production line on Dec. 7th 1942!
My idea that it should be a early Feb. 1943 produced Dodge was wrong. Maybe the fact that the next "earlier" VIN no. in the built card collection is a WC52 might explain that "error"?
Anyhow, I'm very satisfied that I have now a proof of the production date - thank's to the great support from Chrysler Heritage.
Keep on doing,
Joakim

Hello Folks,
so here are some fresh pictures from my WC51 with the M24 added.
In the end a bit more work than I thought to make it fit, but the result is better than I had expected it:

Re: Old WC's never die - they just move on! :-)
Hello Folks,
we had here in the heart of Germany some pretty nice days - like indian summer - so I thought this is maybe the last chance until spring to take some pictures of my WC51 at the former Rhein Main Air Base and it's Berlin Airlift Memorial.
I allways wanted to have some pictures of my Dodge with a C-47 and the one at the memorial was the closest one in our area.
Lucky me: the main gate was open, so that I could "sneak in" with my Dodge, take some pictures "without fence" and leave again before getting shot by the security...
Some results can be found here:

Keep them rolling,

Re: Old WC's never die - they just move on! :-)
Hello Folks,
so finally a lot of stuff that had to be done on my old battlehorse has been finished throughout the last months. It's allways a bit like "two steps forward - one step back" because not all things work in the way as you have planned it. Starting from shitty welded repro window frames up to more "construction related problems" as cal. .50 BMG's that don't fit under the canvas and have to be transported in extra boxes....
But anyhow: actually finished are things as the M24 mount and cradle added, transferbox-overhaul, ignition changed to electronic, valve-clearance adjusted, new engine side covers and gaskets, oil pan gaskets changed (but still leaking), front axle diff oil seal x-changed, marker lights are now working, new grill guard (early style), wings and grill and lamp guards resrayed as well as the bumpers front and rear, new markings added (3.AD), new battery cable, new battery mount (custom made), tank exchanged, all wheels balanced, brake drums CNC milled, new brake shoes, new front axle outer oil seals... = simply too much to tell!
So some pictures of all this can be found here:
http://www.steel-toys.com/WC51REB/
To see all pictures click on next pichture on top. The new uploads from today are from picture 38 on.

Re: Old WC's never die - they just move on! :-)
Hello Folks,
I had a pretty good "Dodge day": After that we had some rainshowers at noon we had then the most outstanding sunshine, so I took my Dodge for a spontaneous ride to the Klassikstadt Vintage Car Museum (see: http://www.klassikstadt.de/).
I had a good cake and a coffee there and could see in the meanwhile how a older man was very fascinated of my Dodge. He was still there when I wanted to drive back home and told me that he was driving in a Dodge like this very often as a child.
He told me that his family had a Brewery in Thuringia and in 1945 the US troops occupied the Brewery - because of the beer (of cause) and the safe yard with walls around that they used for their motorpool.
So he and his friends had often the chance to drive in the back of the Dodge WC51 that this unit had in use in large amounts.
That's one of the (rare) moments that make our hobby so special and that reminds us a bit what background our vehicles have. - It might sound a bit crazy - but after moments like this I wished my Dodge could tell me what he has seen and where he has been before...
So I told that man "climb up in the truck and I will give you a ride on the yard" - as back in 1945 when he was 8 years old.
We circled a bit around on the parking area and he was very satisfied, thanking me several times and left me to meet his wife again. While doing so he turned around and he had this "certain smile" in his face that most people have after a ride in a Dodge...
I wish you all a relaxed Sunday afternoon & keep 'em rolling, Joakim
