Impressive work! You are truly inspiring.
And I especially like the eerie blue glow emanating from the rear windows...

Nah... I taught the Blue Heeler how to weld and he is in the front half fabricating me a new transmission cover for the Allison/NP205 combo.Wolfen wrote:The Blue Glow is from the Alien hiding in the back of the Carryall.
Actually I put the tape on the windows to keep from burning the glass with spatter or sparks and the drop light was on hanging from the inside.
Thanks for the compliments guys. It really keeps me motivated. I can't wait to get back to work on the thing. Its moving along nice. It seems that as long as I am taking my time, the quality of the work ends up saving me more time in the long run. However, I am learning a few things along the way, like it doesn't take but a few small tacks with the welder in the wrong spot to warp the ever living heck out of a piece of sheet to where it no longer fits where it was supposed to. Also, the toy dumptrucks, fridges, farm equipment, and whatever else is in the steel in the back end of this truck... does not like to be welded to.

Amen to that! I have no problems with the mechanical, electrical & structural stuff, but the sheet metal working scares the heck out of me! Oh well, I guess thereare panel beaters out there and its only money
Keep up the amazing work.

Any updates? Zephy is outpacing you!

Nope. Been out of town working. Actually not far from you right now. Just over the hills in Reno. Getting re-cert for Industrial Rope Access. I tend to spend a good bit of time hanging from a rope battling bridge trolls. (Bridge Inspector/Retrofit Engineer for a living).divingrocks wrote:Any updates? Zephy is outpacing you!

Sounds like a fun and important job. I'm about three hours west of Reno. Haven't been over there since I saw Colin Kaepernick and the Wolfpack beat Boise State. I think that was the coldest I have ever been in my life!Alxj64 wrote:Nope. Been out of town working. Actually not far from you right now. Just over the hills in Reno. Re: WC53 - Project Big Band Wagon
It has its ups and downs... (pun intended). The consultant firm I work for has a contract with Virginia DOT as well as with the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Administration, and that puts us in a lot of the National Parks inspecting stuff that no one else in the country has the expertise at the way we do. Our access abilities coupled with the engineering experience we also have makes us insanely efficient, and accurate at what we do.
Stevens Canyon Viaduct in Mt. Rainer- Washington State.
Or Triple Arches Bridge, on the "Going to the Sun Road" in Glacier Nat. Park.
Initial Construction inspection on a brand new 220' high draw bridge in my city of residence.

Wow, that is awesome! Not only is it an interesting job, but it looks like you get added perks as well in the locales you get to visit. I haven't been to Glacier National Park, but it is on my bucket list for sure. I hear it is a must see.

Re: WC53 - Project Big Band Wagon
I've been to pretty much all of the big deal parks so far, save for Denali, Hawaii, and am hitting the Grand Canyon in May... But of the rest, I would say that Glacier is the most breathtaking place, on every turn, of all of the parks. The "Going to the Sun Road" is amazing, and if you are able bodied, I highly suggest going to "Many Glacier" and hiking from there up to the "Iceburg Lake" and checking that out. Simply amazing!
Back to trucks, I think I fibbed a bit. Forgot I hadn't posted these little pictures. Started working on the gate interior skin. Yikes, this is also a pain. Getting those holes cut in exactly the correct place... measure 4,186 times, and cut once, very very very carefully.
Huh, other picture links aren't working... Hold till Saturday and I'll have some more good stuff for ya.
