From Eric
It is what I suspected, but a little newer. That's a 1953 23" long 230ci engine based on the M37 engine. I believe they were made as replacements for the M37 or possibly replacements for the T214/T223 trucks used around the world at the time.

Re: Strange Engine Number
I think that nails it then sir ! Many thanks for the help and advice with this !
So is it actually a Dodge made engine or a Civilian made “ pattern” replacement motor ?
And I’m going to ask the obvious…. Dodge didn’t have a late 45 chassis body and cab sitting around waiting for 8 years for an engine did they ?
Begging the question of when did it go through a major rebuild and by whom ?
Kind regards
Lloyd

Re: Strange Engine Number
it was common to install crate engines from chrysler. the military bought tons of them in air tight containers. last time I saw one for sale was about 15 years ago. Eric is the go to guy for this kind of data!

Re: Strange Engine Number
I dont think anyone but chrysler ever made any engine blocks. most likely it was a dealer replacement engine or a private shop ordered the engine from mopar. There were some WC type vehicles produced after the war but only for custom orders through the Special Equipment Group at Chrysler. But odds are very slim yours was made after the war
