M-2 CLETRAC

Post by RANGER »

Another forgotten WWII vehicle was the Cletrac Tug, just about every Army Air Force unit had these, they towed everything from the Piper L-4 thru B-29. The WWII base across the street was abuzz with these until the early 50s. They were mounted on rubber tracks. They were replaced by larger machines such as the M-2 Euclid which towed B-29,B-47, B-50, KC-97, B-36, B-52 aircraft.
(I owned a surplus Euclid Tug of this sort in the 80s, it had an Allison Automatic Transmission, and Josh, my 5 year old boy used to take it around the yard. I sold it to a major Airline to tow their DC-8 and 707 Aircraft.)
