Hi can anyone tell me if the two models of front prop shaft assemblies are interchangeable on a WC52? Both appear to be the same overall length and use the same UJs. Apart from the tube and splined shaft lengths are different, they both add up to the same length.
I need a good front prop but my old one is the 1st model but I can get a 2nd model. Don’t won’t to waste money if there is a valid reason I can’t use it.
My parts list states part number CC924653 only but there are two available CC924653A and CC924653B.
I suspect they are interchangeable but wanted to check first.
Cheers in advance.

The only difference I can imagine is in the UJ, the late models had larger joints fitted but I've only seen them on the TC end and in my case on the intermediate shaft from the transmission to the TC, which I'm assuming was done on the post war rebuild as it's an early '44

Thanks Chris
I’m going to risk it as the supplier states the UJs are the same on both models.
I’ll let you know how I get on.....

Re: WC51/52 front prop - 2 models
The front drive shafts are interchangeable as an assembly. The universal joints are the same as is the overall length. The later shaft, as you noted uses a longer spline and slip yoke. The change appears to have been made to increase the service life of the shaft as the shorter splined (early) version wore out the spline a little too readily.
As far as I am aware the only place a larger universal joint was used was in the jackshaft between the gearbox and transfer case. Early models used the same size U/J in this position as the front and rear drive shafts

the later one is a big upgrade. the early ones are cast and the later ones are forged. they started with the forged ends on the 6x6 then the 4x4s got them later. I broke two early cast yokes. Granted they were ancient and lasted a long time but why not upgrade to the last forever style. ;/)
