I have a M5 3" anti tank gun being restored. I want to put new tires on it but the tires are foam filled, and the tires will have to be cut off. This will be VERY expensive to do. Like a grand. So I thought I'd just replace the rims, but not sure what they used.
Here is a shot of the rim. Is this a CCKW rim?
Thanks

I'm no expert, but looks like a combat wheel from a half track. Not sure if they were used on towed pieces or not.

DUKW/CCKW Combat wheel is 18" and has twice the number of lug nut holes.

Re: Is this a CCKW rim?
Looks like the "high flotation" replacement for the CCKW: I think they are 18.00-20 IIRC: I used to have a late war CCKW with 1615 cab & wooden bed which had them from the factory: they had a special data plate on the cab regarding them... They should be the same as DUKW rims: Also, they replaced the dual rears with singles.
That truck, by way of note, came from the great Mahalchik Yard Auction after John V. (a friend of mine) passed away. It got parted- one guy bought the rolling chassis, engine, etc, and the cab & gas tank went to my (then) CCKW project truck. The bed was shot- entirely rotted out after decades of sitting in a yard in SJ... I'd love to know what has happened with it since- one of the guys in the MV-Pa. MVCC at Valley Forge bought the remains to restore: the CCKW I was building ended up with George Lawrence in South Jersey, and went to someone, I think, in Bucks Cty. Pa... I'd love to see pics, if anyone has restored either truck. (I may just post my one remaining photo of the CCKW.. Neat truck. Lots of driveshafts...)

Re: Is this a CCKW rim?
DUKW and special order CCKW's with the singles used 11.00 X 18. Gamma Goat used same size but lighter weight 11.00 X 18 Tires.
This wheel is typical of the 6 hole combat wheels found on WWII towed Guns.

11.00-18_ THAT's what they were... (It has been around 25 years, IIRC...)RANGER wrote:DUKW and special order CCKW's with the singles used 11.00 X 18. Gamma Goat used same size but lighter weight 11.00 X 18 Tires.
