THOSE BLACK CCKW CHASSIS

Post by RANGER »

Truck chassis usually come from the ,manufacturer with a coat of "Black Chassis Enamel". It is not meant to be durable but just a protective coating for a chassis until it gets colored at the factory and is normally a semi-gloss or lusterless finish. This is what MV owners discover under the many layers of OD paint on their MB/GPW, WC, G-506, G-508, etc.. DuPont may still offer their Black Chassis Enamel, I used to purchase DuPont brand in 1 Qt. Cans.

DuPont NASON 422-05 CHASSIS BLACK, it dries in minutes and is just like the product used by truck chassis manufacturers to give the chassis a temporary protective coating before final painting. It was not a rocket science paint. The DuPont/Nason 422-05 Chassis Black is around $40.00 per gallon. Chassis Black is the black color peeking out at you beneath those peeling layers of OD paint on your Dodges, CCKW's and Jeeps.
