Pre-Jerry Fuel Cans
Here's some good details of the fuel cans they were using before adopting the Jerry style can. A couple of good photos of the transition old and new fuel cans. One photo shows the old style can mounted on a VC running board. These photos where taken at various maneuvers in 1941.

Re: Pre-Jerry Fuel Cans
EJO, have you or anyone you know seen these old cans around in recent history? Don't think I have noticed any, but, then again, I didn't know to look for them. I wonder how many of them I might have see on old farms and ranches from the 50's to 70's! Must have been a good surplus item after the war?

Re: Pre-Jerry Fuel Cans
I've seen similar but none quite the same. Most I've found are missing the handle on the top and are not flat on the top. Usually have a raised portion where the cap is on the top. I'd like to find one like the photos though!

Re: Pre-Jerry Fuel Cans
I now have a new item to search for! Anyone have any really good, detailed photos of these old cans?
Thanks, Steve K.

Not to get off-topic, but did anyone notice how tall that fellow is standing beside that WC open-cab? He must be 7' tall!

Wow, great eye. I copied the photo off and enlarged it thinking it may be some sort of illusion. Nope. That guy is really tall! I didn't notice that the other day when I was looking at the photo. Very interesting.

What I noticed, for us who grew up in the early 70s. The guys putting fuel in the Piper cub. Remember putting fuel in the Cox airplanes with the .049 motors? That is the same spot.

- My garage: Restored Old Henry, and have had this WC51 on the road around 3 years now... Currently finishing a brace of Ben Hur trailers, and starting a 67 Galaxie fastback. Concurrent with the WC I restored a 74 TR6... Oh the joys.
