My New GMC CCKW 352

Post by Steve »

Hi all,
Having sold my Dodge WC54 I am now the proud owner of a closed cab 352. Just need a mystery answered on the frame number and date of build, number is CCKW 352 25628, and data plate 27-10-41. Data plate is a bit suspect as the date stamped is more like UK style instead of the US 10-27-41. Any ideas would be appreciated especially from you RANGER - font of all knowledge. Steve

The Serial number indicates a 1941 1st Series. DOD can be confusing as the truck may have been held at factory for several months and is not unusual. Mine is 36443 and was manufactured in May using CCKW data from over the years. A fun truck that adds character to any WWII collection. I have enjoyed mine 27 years.

I would have to see what the Data Plate lookslike, it may be a replacement installed during an overhaul by an European Depot. The date is stamped similar to the order done in Europe. I can tell by the font of the numerals if it was stamped by an European shop.

Many CCKW's rebuilt in European Depots received new dataplates on the firewall, they were US Army Issue but in brass.

Steve,

My 352-B1, serial number 39680-B1, has a DOD 8-11-41 stamped on the plate. Should be 11th of August but could also be 8th of November if it is stamped the same way as your plate !?!?!

Image

date is lightly stamped and can't be seen on the picture...

Is your plate the same model as mine?

Thierry.

The date of delivery is August 11, 1941 in the manner that is customary in the USA.
