That is really nice, but ...

Post by Gordon_M »

My K43 was the only truck I ever did a real pile of miles in, and it was fun to drive, unfortunately the back body had been severely altered.

I see something a little strange on the front, maybe you know more about these things than me, but let me know ... The front grille is a Chevrolet grille (it is wire, rather than the bent steel strip you would expect on the GMC) but on mine it was one piece of wire bent up and down in a continuous snake, whereas your grille has separate pieces running vertically like a Dodge.

Is this an early / late thing, with the late ones being like yours - easier to manufacture?

Yes, it is early late. This truck was made September 1943 and has the late grille. It also has the early small gas cap.

The truck I believe never left the Air base at Reno, forgot the name, then was sold to Lake Tahoe Park, then to a farmer. It still had USAF markings on the doors over the original paint. I sanded it down and found "Peaches" over the original paint and below the second paint of it.

Thanks for that

It's very square and straight.

I don't see the original poles and so on, do you have them as well? I had them on mine, and after long neglect they went to someone who had the Canadian Chevrolet version of the same truck.

I think the K43 is a more useful truck than the K 44 Augur, but then...

If I was going to have another Chevrolet it would be either the plain panel or the K51 signals truck, as I have the matching signals trailer here - no generator though.

Gordon, I am missing the boom poles. I figured I would restore the truck then work on all the stuff that went in/on it.

Do you still have contact with the Canadian to get photos or measurements?

Thanks for the comments. Ranger if you look reeaaalll close you can see your hood bumpers on it :D

The poles went with the truck, then came back, then moved on years ago - no real chance of contact.

The good news is that the only bit that would be hard to fabricate was the extreme top joint section of the main pole - the rest would be easy to copy if you could see and size some originals.

There is a guy in my town that has the auger assembly for sale. He may have more parts. If you want I can try and get his info.

Great Truck!

I have some telephone equipment that would look good sitting next to it. Too Bad you are a "Fur Piece" from Cincinnati, OH.

I have what I believe is the pole assy for the back of this truck. It came with my Chev Auger truck.

That is the good news.

The bad news is you are on one side of the pond and I on the other.... :(

That is one BEAUTIFUL truck!!! :D
