MILITARY VEHICLES EVENTS PLANNER 2018


Hello Military Vehicle Collectors,

2017 is now a thing of the past and it is time to start the planning of the "olive drab" agenda for 2018.

So I will "collect" "as usual" all events for 2018 here in the next months to keep you all updated.

As before is the main idea simply to connect our Forum members in a better way and to inform on "who is where and when".
Maybe this thread might help to team up in groups or to generate "convoys" if possible - just for better support in case of technical problems etc. etc.
- Or just to meet others from the Forum at those events for some good "gasoline talks" and / or sharing a beer together.

Please feel free to add more events that you think are "worth to see" for 2018 via posting them in this thread or sending me an PM!

A brief description and links are always helpful too so that I can copy them into the overall event planner list below.

35. Years USMVC e.V. and MV spring Camp 2018 at D-56357 Bogel (G)
Spring Camp and anniversary of the US Military Vehicle Club (USMVC), the oldest Club for ex. US-Army MV collectors in Germany.
MV tour and BBQ on Sat. Camp location at Bogel is close to St. Goar and the River Rhine. Details will follow lateron (see USMVC homepage):

34. International Military Vehicle Meeting organized by the QUADRIGA Club. L-8211 Mamer (Luxembourg).
The MV Meeting "classic" for vehicles from 1940-45 with the longest tradition in the region. Worth to visit!

9th US and Bundeswehr Military Vehicle Meeting, D-97762 Hammelburg (G)
Mid-Sized MV collectors Event with about 50:50 former US Army and Bundeswehr vehicles in place. The MV Camp is again close to the Saaleck Castle and the Bundeswehr special forces training ground Hammelburg. Access to the military area is possible as a guided convoy with MP on Sat. - but only if no troops are training. Entrance-Fee per vehicle is 15,- Euro (to be confirmed). Registration necessary. Address: Saaleckstrasse, D-97762 Hammelburg. Event location is behind Schloss Saaleck.

32. International "Pinkstertreffen" of the Patton Drivers Club, B-3832 Ulbeek (B)
Event for MV from 1940 to 1945 - located between Maastricht and Bruxelles with a long tradition - offering a militaria fair, convoy driving and more.
Friday and Sat. evening WW2 Ballroom with DJ, Militaria Fair on Sunday. Hundreds of WW2 MV turning a village in to an Allied WW2 Camp. Great!

The well known La Gleize militaria fair across the town-centre is to be held on Sat. from 8.00 h (a.m.) to 20.00 h (p.m.).

70. anniversary of the Berlin Airlift Operation, Frankfurt am Main (G).
2018 is the 70iest anniversary of the beginning of the legendary Berlin Airlift Operation that provided West Berlin
with supplies during the Soviet blockade. The Berlin Airlift Association Frankfurt is celebrating this anniversary at the Airlift Memorial - a.k.a. "Hungerkralle" (hunger-claw) from 11.00 a.m. on. Among the guests of honor is Col Gail Halverson (ret.), better known as "the Candy Bomber".
The memorial is located next to Frankfurt Airport, directly at Autobahn A5 (South), Exit Cargocity Süd and with it's two Aircraft (C-54 and C-47) directly visible from the Autobahn.

18. Klassikertreffen an den Opelvillen. Rüsselsheim (G)
The GM company Opel and the City of Rüsselsheim are organizing in 2018 the 18th edition of one of the largest vintage car Events in the State of Hesse. In the Park of the former Opel family Villas, located on the riverbanks of the River Main up to 3,000 classic cars from all decades and manufacturers will show up at this relaxed picknick-style Sunday Event.

35. Int. Oldtimer Fly And Drive In, Schaffen-Diest Airfield, B-3290 Diest (B)
Originally an international Classic Aircraft enthusiasts Event with a very long tradition at one of the oldest activ airfields in Belgium, that is still today the home of the Belgium Forces Paratroopers. Since years the Fly In offers a steady growing vintage car meeting with a very relaxed XXL picknick charactre, incl. classic WW2 MV camp.

Very cool MV event (mostly static display) located at the two runways of the Ursel Airfield with Air-Show and one of the largest militaria fairs in Belgium. Worth to visit because it's one of the nicest combinations of MV Event & militaria fair in central Europe.

Tanks in Town, Mons (B).
18th edition of this great event with it's long tradition, that is bringing each year about 20 WW2 allied Tanks and approx. 30 or even more Armored MV as M8, Halftracks Scout Cars etc. together - plus WW2 truck's and light vehicles in a large amount. Now the first info's are at hand for this great WW2 MV Event & Liberation Festival at the City of Mons and online registration is open. USMVC Koblenz tour "Operation Silent Crossing 2016", starting at D-55411 Bingen (G)
MV tour on the traces of the river Rhine Crossing of General Patton in March 1945. The tour is organized by the USMVC Koblenz, one of the oldest MV collectors Club's in Germany.

The MV tour is starting on Saturday at the former Hindenburg Bridge at Bingen (the forgotten sister to the legendary Bridge at Remagen), then going thru the vine area around Mainz and ending at Nierstein, south of Mainz.
Here on the 22.03.1945 the "Operation Silent Crossing" took place and Patton pissed into the Rhine from the Ponton Bridge after having been the first over the Rhine and "slapping Montgomery in the face" that way.

For Sunday is a visit of the former Nierstein Army Motor Pool and vineyard and then of the point of the Rhine crossing planned.
