Hello Military Vehicle Collectors,

I'm right back from a great 70th D-Day anniversary week in Normandy and got the first info on a MV event in 2015.

So I will "collect" all events for 2015 here in the next months to keep you all updated.

As before is the main idea simply to connect our Forum members in a better way and to inform on "who is where and when".
Maybe this thread might help to team up in groups or to generate "convoys" if possible - just for better support in case of technical problems etc. etc.
- Or just to meet others from the Forum at those events for some good "gasoline talks" and / or sharing a beer together.

Please feel free to add more events that you think are "worth to see" for 2015 via posting them in this thread!
A brief description and links are allways helpful too so that I can copy them into the overall event planner list below.

One more MV winter camp for the "hardcore MV owners" from the BeNeLux area and northern Germany. The Camp is open from Friday afternoon 16.00 h on. On Sat. and Sunday will be Convoy driving in the Ardennes area and more.

70iest anniversary of the first River Rhine Crossing via the Remagen Bridge, D-53424 Remagen

"The Americans are coming!" WW2 MV Meeting at the Museum Stammheim D-97509 Stammheim (G)
70 years ago the US-Troops liberated the upper River Main Valley. The Stammheim Military Museum (located nearby the City of Wuerzburg) is celebrating this anniversary with a large Event under the title "Die Amis Kumma" (the Americans are coming!). So the focus is on the US WW2 Troops - but German Wehrmacht MV owners / Re-Enactors are welcome as well! Even "Deko-Waffen" (model guns) are allowed at the campsite.
The Museum offers a Camp for MV owners and Re-Enactors as well as a parade, a special exhibition about the end of WW2 in the area, Tank driving, blank firing with an Long Tom Howitzer and much more.
Highlight will be the "Tanzabend" (dancing evening) for "US-Soldiers and German Fauleins" on Sat. evening. Beside of the Event is the Museum with it's collection worth a visit in every case.

KTR MV Event "Final Push", at Groesbeek/Groningen (NL)
The 70iest anniversary of the Operation Plunder and Varsity, celebrated by the Dutch Keep Them Rolling MV Club. MV tour starting with a Campsite at Groesbeek. The Event offers a large varity of activities from the cities of Groningen, Westerbork, Balkbrug, Delden, Ijzerlo to Groesbeek = "simply to much to tell". On the 29.03. the MV (about 120?) will be at the City of Rees and cross the River Rhine.
Notice: Due to my latest info is the registration for KTR members only. But: non-members can register via a KTR member (we have several here at the Forum - just ask them if interested in joining the Event).

The village of Niederzimmern and the "Verein der Natur- und Heimatfreunde Niederzimmern e.V." organize together a Liberation Convoy for historical Allied MV, starting at 10.00 p.m at the "Schenkplatz". 01.-06.05.2015 Liberation Festival Pilsen, CZ-301 00 Pilsen (CZ)
Forgotten by many in Western Europe is the fact, that the Allied Forces liberated in the end of WW2 wide areas in the east that then later on became "satellite States" of the Sowjet Union. Back in 1945 the City of Pilsen was liberated by the troops of General Patton and the 17th Belgium Battalion - today to be remembered with the Patton Memorial at Pilsen and a friendship between Pilsen and the City of Mons (Belgium).
70 years after the End of WW2 and the end of the Sowjet Empire the City of Pilsen is today not only part of the European Community - Pilsen is in 2015 the "European Capital of Culture" and is remembering V-Day with an own Liberation Festival in large scale with full support of the Major of the City and local authorities. So there will be Concerts, Commemorations at the Patton Memorial with Veterans in Place, Convoy driving with MV as well as a MV collectors Camp. UPDATE: The entry list for the MV parade of the City of Pilzen has been closed im Mid-February because the City of Pilsen has limited it's parade to 100 MV only.

BUT: There is the Convoy of Remembrance as "Plan B"...
The MCC Pilsen is organizing as part of this event-week daily convoy tours in the area and in addition a large MV parade with up to 300 MV. This XXL parade will be held on Sunday the 3rd of May at the Klatovska Street. See: http://convoy.militarycarclub.cz/en/program

9. Oldtimer- und Militärfahrzeugtreffen at Fort Gorgast, D-15328 Küstrin (G).
The historical society "Heimatverein Die Tuchebander e.V. " is celebrating it's 9th MV Meeting at the Fort Gorgast, incl. spare parts market and a public tour thru the Fortification that has been part of the Küstrin Fortress. Built in 1883-1889 it was after WW2 in use with the Sowjet Army and then lateron with the German Bundeswehr as an ammunition storage area. After the end of use by the military it was handed over to the historical society for further preservation. Today it is one of the most intact fortresses in Germany that still exists. Parts of the Fortress can be used for staying overnight on request.

Notice: The Event is this year limited to 80 MV only! Registration in advance is necessary and following the "first come - first serve" rule. 27th LUFTHANSA Klassikertage, D-65795 Hattersheim (G).
The "Lufthansa Classic Days" at Hattersheim (about 15 km from Frankfurt) are organised by the Lufthansa employees vintage car Club "scuderia LUFTHANSA classico" and growing year by year.
It's a bit like the "Fly In" Event at the Airfield at Diest (B) = a sort of "bring what you have" Event (no pre-registration etc.). In years with good weather they have up to 2,700 vintage vehicles and 60,000 spectators there! Some MV classics among them as well. Just follow the sign posts from the Autobahn A66.

"71 years anniversary of D-Day", Normandy, (F)
Just as a "reminder" for you: D-Day 2015 is the 71st anniversary of the landings in Normandy and will be not such a "big thing" as in 2014. But as usual there will be a lot of events and commemorations in the week before and after the 6th. I will add lateron more specific infos, as soon as I get them.
Generally speaking: you should plan your trip in time and make reservations as soon as possible - esp. if you are planning to stay at the "hot spots" as Ste. Mere Eglise or Omaha Beach with limited amount of Hotels and B&B places.

15th annual Merchantville Car Show & Sock Hop, Merchantville, NJ (USA)
This event has seen significant growth over the past 14 years to over 800 cars. Originally started as a local day of fun for families in Merchantville and the surrounding communities, it has grown to the point that the festivities now draw participants from over 9 states and fill up most of the major parks and thoroughfares throughout the town center. All proceeds from the event benefit the Merchantville Task Force, a non-profit organization dedicated to the enrichment of the downtown area. In addition there will be a veterans ceremony as well.

B-24 "Battlin' Baby" Gedenkfeier (Commemoration) at CH-3315 Bätterkinden (CH)
Commemoration for the Crew of the B-24 Liberator "Battlin' Baby" that crashed in the end of WW2 at Bätterkinden.
A new memorial will be handed over to the public at 10.30 h., vetrerans and relatives of the Crew will be in place as well as a honor guard and officials from several organisations. In addition there will be the Trumpet Section of the History Swinger Band in place.
A special highlight is then the fly by of several vintage Aircraft and the "Missing Man Formation" presented by the CAF-Swiss Wing + a parachuters jump in WW2 Uniforms. There will be a special parking area for MV and all MV owners are welcome to join the commemoration organized by the private B-17 Museum Utzenstorf.

Croft Racing Circuit, an old Spitfire base during the war and now, as the name says, a race track. It's a 40's weekend with MV's, Classic Cars and buses, fashion shows etc. and on the track there is racing all weekend as it is one round of the British Sports Cars Championship - a sort of miniature Goodwood. It's usually a good weekend. Tickets from 10,- GBP.

14th European Elvis Festival at Bad Nauheim and Friedberg (G)
Largest Event in Europe of this kind at the former "European home of the King", incl. Exhibitions, Cadillac Parade, Cinema- and life music Events, collectibles market and much more - celebrating this year the 80iest B-Day of the King!
The background of this Festival: When the “King of Rock ´n´ Roll” started his military service on the 1st of October 1958, the city of Bad Nauheim (about 20 km north of Frankfurt) soon became his “European home”: He rented a house at the Goethestrasse in Bad Nauheim and lived there with his his parents for 18 months and met his later wife during that time. So Bad Nauheim is the home of the "European Graceland".
His US Army unit was located at the Ray Barracks at the nearby town of Friedberg and today both cities and the two largest Elvis Fan-Clubs celebrate this period with "the King" with a Festival with more than 6.000 visitors, a collectibles market, lot's of cover Bands and a Cadillac & vintage car exhibition as well as a Cadillac parade from Bad Nauheim to Friedberg and a unique guided tour at the former US Army Ray Barracks area that normally is strictly closed to the public.

Originally an international Classic Aircraft enthusiasts Event with a very long tradition (32nd annual issue!) at one of the oldest activ airfields in Belgium, that is still today the home of the Belgium Forces Paratroopers. Since years the Fly In offers a steady growing vintage car meeting with a very relaxed XXL picknick charactre, incl. some classic WW2 MV. As far as my contact's are stating the MV will be in 2015 the first time ever on a special display area with Camp (to be confirmed).

Largest annual MV event in Germany organised by the Military Vehicle Drivers - Koblenz.
Usually more than 400 MV in place. Focus is clearly on post WW2 MV (= 98 % of all in place).
The Event is open to all types of vehicles - tracked as well (Tanks, Halftracks, Military Caterpillars etc.) - even those with steel tracks! The MVD offers the unique opportunity for free (!) driving on the German Forces Tank training grounds close to the River Rhine and the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.
XXL Tank Car Wash (for a small fee) avaiable to bring your vehicles clean back.

International Huertgen Forest March (Der internationale Hürtgenwaldmarsch/IHM) with commemoration at the Church of Vossenack, D-52393 Hürtgenwald Community of Vossenack (G).
The IHM already has a tradition of more than 25 years. In order to foster international understanding, the IHM is held in remembrance of one of the costliest battles of World War II – the so-called "All Souls' Day Battle" from November 1944 to February 1945.
Today, women and men, civilians and soldiers, veterans of all nations and their grandchildren march side by side during the International Huertgen Forest March (IHM). This is international understanding in action and may be a historic lesson. In remembrance of the horror of war, they all meet in the idyllic autumn forests, protesting together in silence against a German reign of terror which has been defeated – hopefully for ever.
The organizer of this commemorative march is the Land Command North Rhine-Westphalia (Landeskommando NRW) in cooperation with the local Hürtgenwald Reservist Association and the Aachen district group of the Bundeswehr Reserve Association.

As in the last years the organization is splitted up among the City of Bastogne and several Re-Enactment groups. Valid informations for 2015 ar actually not at hand.
Based on the schedule of the last years is the Historic Walk on Sat. the 12th, starting at the Bastogne Barracks. The Re-Enactment at Recogne and the MV parade at Bastogne will take place on Sunday the 13th.

The well known La Gleize militaria fair across the town-centre is to be held on Sat. from 8.00 h (a.m.) to 20.00 h (p.m.). Gates are open on Sun. from 8.00 am untill high noon (12.00 h).

32nd Int. Oldtimer Fly And Drive In, Schaffen-Diest Airfield, B-3290 Diest (B).
Originally an international Classic Aircraft enthusiasts Event with a very long tradition (32nd annual issue!) at one of the oldest activ airfields in Belgium, that is still today the home of the Belgium Forces Paratroopers. Since years the Fly In offers a steady growing vintage car meeting with a very relaxed XXL picknick charactre, incl. some classic WW2 MV. As far as my contact's are stating the MV will be in 2015 the first time ever on a special display area with Camp (to be confirmed).

"71 years anniversary of D-Day", Normandy, (F)
Just as a "reminder" for you: D-Day 2015 is the 71st anniversary of the landings in Normandy and will be not such a "big thing" as in 2014. But as usual there will be a lot of events and commemorations in the week before and after the 6th. I will add lateron more specific infos, as soon as I get them.
Generally speaking: you should plan your trip in time and make reservations as soon as possible - esp. if you are planning to stay at the "hot spots" as Ste. Mere Eglise or Omaha Beach with limited amount of Hotels and B&B places.

Worth a visit is the Airborne Museum at Ste. Mere Eglise - that has been expanded in large scale for the 2014 anniversary. So if you have seen it before the re-opening in May 2014 you should think of a second visit. Tanks in Town, Mons (B). So now this great event with it's long tradition is back for good and the organization and size of the 2014 issue was very impressive.
Now the date for the 2015 Event (the 16th issue of TiT) has been confirmed and the first info's are at hand for this great WW2 MV Event at the City of Mons.
So this will be again one of the major events in BeNeLux in 2015 that you should not miss!

NEW: 07.-09.08.2015 RK Hainburg Biwak 2015, Hainstadt (Germany) . The annual camp with cross country orientation competition organized by the Reservistenkameradschaft Hainburg (state of Hessen, Germany). The RK Hainburg is one of many RK groups in Germany - representing former German Forces Soldiers that want to keep the contact to former brothers in arms. The RK Hainburg is located nearby the City of Hanau, about 20 km east of Frankfurt and focussed on preserving MV vehicles and open to all owners of MV of all decades. The RK Hainburg is offering traditionally once a year a small "cosy" camp / event to all interested in preserving the military heritage. NEW: 07.03.2015 - 70iest anniversary of the first River Rhine Crossing via the Remagen Bridge (Ludendorff Bridge). Actually are no events linked to this important date available. I contacted the Remagen Peace Museum, located in the towers of the remaining bridge on the western river banks to get further details.

My personal plan is to drive up the River Rhine valley on that Saturday from Wiesbaden, heading north, on that day with my Dodge on the eastern River Rhine banks. Maybe some other MV owners would like to join me. The idea is an relaxed drive along the WW2 bridgeheads between Mainz (Gen. Hodges Bridge) and Remagen (north of Koblenz).

My idea isto lay down some flowers at the Remagen Bridge memorial at the end of the day, that became the starting point of the end of "the Reich" and the Nazi dictatorship, opening the gates for the U.S. forces to the German heartland.

It's hard to explain how it feels to stand on the remainings of this legendary bridge and to know how fierce the battle about the Ludendorff bridge was 69 years ago.
- So I mixed my pictures with some from March 1945 to bring that moment in history back. I hope you will like that compilation:
